Columbus Shines with Startup Spirit and Success

May 20, 2016

As reported in this month’s issue of, there is an ‘infectious startup spirit’ making its way through Columbus.  Startup Storytellers is an annual event created by Civic Hacks in which successful entrepreneurs share compelling stories to plant entrepreneurial seeds and demonstrate how they overcame obstacles when launching their businesses.  This year, the Startup Storyteller event was held on April 6th at the Columbus Museum of Art in an effort to accommodate more attendees since more than 550 people attended this year compared to over 200 last year.

The Better Business Bureau Serving Central Ohio and the Columbus Chamber of Commerce was an establishment sponsor of the Startup Storytellers event—having caught the startup bug.  The BBB partnered with Civic Hacks to create the Spark Awards, in conjunction with the BBB’s Torch Awards for Ethics.  This award honors millennial entrepreneurs who demonstrate a commitment to character, culture and community, and was presented to A & R Creative, Compton Construction and Griffen Hollow Studio.

Dale Carnegie said, “The person who goes farthest is generally the one who is willing to do and dare. The sure-thing boat never gets far from shore.”  If you’ve been sitting on a startup idea, consider showcasing it at the upcoming SunDown RunDown Business Pitch Event which will be held on Friday, May 27th

Does your or your employees’ presentations lack persuasion and punch?  The two-day High Impact Presentations seminar is as close as you can get to teaming up with a personal, public speaking coach.  Participants present at least seven times and are able to evaluate and improve their performance by learning from their videotaped presentations.  This seminar is two successive days long and kicks off on Monday, May 23rd
